Can I Use Surrogate Pay to Cover Travel Expenses?

Yes! Our surrogate compensation package covers various travel expenses incurred throughout your surrogacy journey. This surrogate pay includes transportation and hotels, should you need one during your surrogacy journey.

The surrogate pay you can receive includes travel to:

  • Doctor’s Appointments: You can receive surrogacy pay for traveling to and from medical appointments, including prenatal check-ups and consultations with fertility specialists.

  • Medical Procedures: Any travel necessary for medical procedures, such as embryo transfers or prenatal tests, is typically covered as part of our surrogate compensation package.

  • Birth of the Baby: Travel expenses related to the delivery of the baby, including transportation and lodging, are included in your surrogate pay.

  • Visiting Intended Parents: Surrogate pay can cover travel when visiting the intended parents.

“When you're traveling to different clinics — for your embryo transfer, medical screening and things like that — you’re compensated for food and other expenses for you and a support person,” said Brittany, a former surrogate and one of our surrogacy specialists. “So just knowing there may be some travel involved — and knowing where you’ll be traveling to — is really helpful.”

How Much Will I Receive for Travel Expenses??

Mileage will be reimbursed for the use of your vehicle to travel any farther than 100 miles from your residence. If necessary, airfare and hotel costs are usually covered by surrogate pay, and it often can be provided to you before travel occurs.

You will receive a per diem when you’re traveling at a flat rate of $125 per day for both yourself and your travel companion. This is intended to cover things like food, Uber rides and other miscellaneous daily expenses.

Are Surrogate Travel Expenses Taxable?

The tax treatment of surrogate travel reimbursements can vary depending on how they're structured in your contract and your state's tax laws. In many cases, reimbursements for actual travel expenses may not be considered taxable income.

It's important to discuss these details with your attorney and a tax professional during the contract phase. They can help you understand your specific situation and ensure you're prepared for tax season.

How to Enjoy Traveling While Pregnant
